The Opals & Stones I Use

A large variety of Opals I use are Boulder Opal from Queensland as well as Fire Opal from the Australian Lighting Ridge. Most of the natural Opal you see is hand cut by me, which is why you see a lot of free form shapes in my jewelry. To make my jewelry affordable and available to more people I also have a selection of lab grown stones set into some pieces. Please read item description to help make an educated choice when buying your jewelry.

What are Precious Stones?

A precious stone is a naturally occurring mineral or rock that is prized for its beauty, rarity and durability. Opal is considered a precious stone due to its unique and captivating play of color; which is a result of its internal structure that diffracts light. This phenomenon, known as "opalescence", gives opals their vibrant and shifting colors, making each stone different and distinct.

What are Lab Grown Stones?

Lab Grown Stones are gemstones that are created in a controlled laboratory environment rather than being mined from the earth. These stones have the same chemical composition, physical properties, and appearance as their natural counterparts.

Lab grown stones offer many advantages, as they are often more affordable than natural stones, have a lower environmental impact, and can be produced without the ethical concerns sometimes associated with mined gemstones. Many customers appreciate the clarity and quality of lab grown stones. Making them a popular choice for jewelry.

Opals made in a laboratory setting allows manufacturers to create Opals in a range of colors and striking patterns making their play of color really stand out and catch the eye. Lab grown opals are often treated to enhance their durability making them more resilient for everyday wear.

My Collections, and When They Will Become Available!

I update my website with the pieces I have made each week every Sunday. Each week's collection varies depending on what I felt inspired to make any given week.

Jewelry Repairs:

All of my pieces are made with care and designed around the need to be enough for everyday wear, within reason of course. Please refer to my care section for more info on how to best care for your pieces. If ever your jewelry piece from me is in need of some TLC, please get in touch via email and attach photos so I can assess your piece.

Resizing:

I do not offer resizing for any of my work, so please make sure you are confident in your size before purchasing. If you need help or have any questions, please email me and I am more than happy to help.

There are reusable ring sizers available on our website.

Some commercial jewelers are able to resize rings with precious stones like opals in them, by using a laser welder to solder the band without risking heating the stone before soldering. This is not something all jewelers will have the skill/ equipment to do. There is a risk involved when resizing precious stones, but it is up to the customer.

Jewelry Care:

Everyday wear: All of the stones I use are solid opals or lab grown. This means you don't need to be too precious with them and they are suitable for everyday wear. They are totally fine getting wet like swimming in the ocean, showering and washing the dishes, however it is a good idea to avoid harsh chemicals such as chlorinated pools, cleaning products or repeated hand sanitizer use.

No hard knocks: Opals are a relatively soft stone compared to others, and they can crack or chip if subjected to any hard knocks. For this reason, I recommend taking your opal jewelry off for any rough activities that might cause you to hit your opal.

Cleaning: You can clean all your jewelry by using a toothbrush and dishwashing detergent and gently scrubbing with warm water. The metal can be polished with a silver/ gold polishing cloth

Please remember my pieces are completely handmade, one-of-a-kind items made by my two hands from scratch. As such, there may be slight imperfections and variations that show the handmade character that goes into each piece...but that is what makes them one of a kind and unique pieces of wearable art!
